Workshop topics have been selected based on the interest and feedback from years of Redefining Love participants and clients. All topics are based on the Redefining Love Framework of Boundaries, Accountability, and Grace towards yourself and others.
A new topic is introduced each month, with at least one workshop per week. Usually, this means there will be four workshops available throughout the month, at rotating times and locations to accommodate various schedules.
No. Redefining Love Workshops are designed to be stand-alone, meaning that you can attend just one and walk away with valuable tools and information to apply to your life in a meaning way. However, the more you know, the more you grow!
Yes, mental health conversations can be triggering for some people. However, these workshops are mental health education, not therapy. Although it’s possible for someone to become triggered by any discussion of mental health, Redefining Love Workshops rarely dig deep enough to send someone into an emotional tailspin. Participants are asked to please honor their own needs and care for their well-being both during and after the session. In the event that a participant becomes triggered during the workshop, they are welcome to step away at any time, or stay after with the facilitator to ensure it is safe for them to go home.
Some topics are more triggering than others. Those workshops that require deeper self-reflection and sharing will be noted at registration.
No, Redefining Love Workshops are not therapy. These are not support groups. They are mental health education meant to provide practical tools for navigating life with Boundaries, Accountability, and Grace towards yourself and others.
No. Although sharing your personal experiences is an option, participants are never required to share. It is entirely okay to sit quietly and learn, and to choose to pass if/when called upon by the facilitator.
Redefining Love Workshops are available to all in the community, regardless of their ability to pay the $49 registration fee. This opportunity is provided by the generous donations of others in your community. Thank you notes are a tangible way that sponsors can be assured their donation is being used for it’s intended purpose. In other words, thank you notes provide accountability (one of the Three Pillars of Redefining Love). Saying “thank you” is also a great way to pay love forward.
Redefining Love Workshop Scholarships are made possible thanks in part to our partnership with local 501(c)3 nonprofit Pay Love Forward. The mission of Pay Love Forward is to protect the mental health of at risk and underserved young people through leadership, mentoring, and the development of compassionate communities. When we pay love forward, we share our wisdom, talents, and time with others. Within the context of Redefining Love Workshops, this means that you take what you’ve learned and apply it to those you encounter in your day-to-day life. And, if you’re so inspired, you set an intention to give back to your community in positive ways.
Refunds are available if a workshop is cancelled within 24 hours of the workshop date and time. Because space is limited, if you simply do not attend, you are taking the spot of someone else that wanted to be there. For this reason, refunds are rarely issues if less than 24 hours notice is given.
If a participant attends a workshop and is not satisfied with the learning content, they may also request a full refund. Participants who request a refund due to dissatisfaction with the learning content will not be allowed to register for future workshops.
Notice of absence or requests for a refund can be sent to sara@sarabethwald.com.
The Redefining Love Framework is not faith-based. The Framework is designed for compatibility with any worldview that is based in mutual respect and love for one another. Although it can be integrated into an individual’s religious life, Redefining Love is not a spiritual practice. Very specifically, Redefining Love is the intentional choice to see the full humanity in ourselves and others with curiosity rather than judgment. It is practiced through Boundaries, Accountability, and Grace towards ourselves and others. This practice is compatible with most religions practiced worldwide.
We are working on it! Quality, reliable research takes time. Redefining Love is actively pursuing partnerships with research institutions and professionals to ensure that data is collected in an ethical, reliable manner. We value an evidence-based approach, and look forward to providing high quality data to support the benefits of Redefining Love as soon as it is available.
The pre- and post-surveys help us track impact, improve the experience, and build a strong foundation of evidence for Redefining Love. Your responses help shape the future of this work, and support our mission to make mental health education accessible and effective for everyone.

The Redefining Love Framework is one of many tools available to mental health practitioners to benefit and support the healing of their clients. In fact, Redefining Love has been used by therapists to complement their practice.
Redefining Love is supported and endorsed by Dr. Matthew Leavenworth, founder of the nonprofit Pay Love Forward. Before stepping away from direct therapy practice to focus on Pay Love Forward, Dr. Leavenworth was a licensed mental health therapist for 12 years at the Yellowstone Counseling Center. In addition to a doctorate in counselor education and supervision, he is certified in Mentor Coaching and Leadership Development through Grandview University.
Childcare is not available at Redefining Love Workshops at this time. However, providing childcare is part of our long-term plan, so please stay tuned!
Although it is impossible to control what participants share after they leave the workshop, every effort is made to encourage participants to respect the privacy and confidentiality of fellow participants. Redefining Love facilitators will never share personal information about participants except in the case of a threat to harm oneself or someone else, or by court order.
Every participant receives a full-color workbook specific to the workshop topic, as well as a folder of information about Redefining Love and mental health. Repeat participants are asked to reuse their folders from prior sessions whenever possible.
Anyone with a growth mindset who is interested in self-development could benefit from attending a Redefining Love Workshop. The material is most enjoyed by those who have done some work on personal improvement, be it therapy, coaching, or independent study, although that is not mandatory. the material is best suited for adults, but some older teens may find it meaningful.
The ideal workshop size is 15 people, although a scheduled workshop will forge ahead with even one person. (This becomes a surprise 1-1 coaching session!) Workshops can be modified to accommodate as many as 30 or more, but typically enrollment is closed at 15 participants.
Nothing! All necessary materials are provided. Cookies and bottled water are also included. For lunchtime workshops, participants are welcome to bring a lunch, although depending on the activities during the workshop, it may limit their ability to participate.
Mental health isn’t just about crisis. It’s about connection, boundaries, and showing up well in your relationships. Redefining Love Workshops are for anyone who wants to grow, lead with intention, and break patterns of generational trauma. You don’t need to be in crisis to build a stronger, more grounded life.
The additional half hour allows for better conversation and reflection, and allows participants to complete the short the pre- and post-surveys.
Sometimes even the best laid plans must change due to illness, weather, or other unexpected circumstances. In the event that a workshop must be canceled, participants can simply register for another session. If the workshop is the last being offered on the topic, there is a possibility that an additional session will be scheduled (but that is not guaranteed).
The most common reason that workshop registrations don’t work is that many people overlook the drop down selection of the number of tickets. The registration will not let you proceed if it shows a 0. Use the drop down to select the number of participants, and try your registration again. If you continue to have problems registering, email sara@sarabethwald.com with the first and last name of the participant, as well as the date you are interested in attending.
If you are paying for your tickets, you can register multiple participants at once. If you are using a scholarship, each participant must register separately.
